The Gap thing

Gap have fallen to public opinion and changed their logo back to the good old Serif’d Blue square. Bowing to pressure, or a modern company utilising the twittersphere and facebook to promote a global chain during uncertain times? People laugh at bad branding, but this was so blatant it makes one wonder.

In a funny way it reminds me of the BBC 6 Music campaign, which some felt was a smokescreen for the other cuts they were making. Put a widely loved institution under threat of a cut and the backlash is inevitable. As with the Gap logo, take something that is universally recognized and understood and offer something less considered, clear in the knowledge that a protest will start.

Or am I just too big a fan of the conspiracy theory?

Just seen this new promo for Massive Attack, and it’s definitely worth a watch. Just very very well executed and keeps you gripped throughout. Not to everyones taste, but I love it. Watch it here.

Prologue logos

Prologue pretty much always deliver something thoughtful, well executed and usually very slick. This is no different. Warner Brothers have been quite brave for a while now in allowing their logo to be interpreted in different ways, according to the setting of the film it opens. This is one of the best examples I’ve seen I think:

White Horse Village

Great to see BBC America getting the recognition it deserves for the White Horse Village films, winning an Emmy this week in New York. I worked with the BBC Newsnight team on these films 3 years ago, and since then they’ve been syndicated and repeated around the world, on BBC World and now it seems BBC America.

The graphics brief was to use the footage the team had shot out in China and capture the atmosphere of the old and the new that was happening there. I’ll post the work up here once the projects section is up and running. It was a quick job but was good to do.

I’m not a gamer, well, I was when I was a kid, but these kind of graphics could persuade me otherwise. This is simply beautiful. I love the way they’ve combined the cell animation, with some v.top end 3D. An altogther lush and glorious feel to it. They’ve taken it off youtube, but you can find it at The Beatles Rockband site. Have a browse, Passion Pictures have done a great job.

I like the look of this, the whole concept is so simple, but well executed. Be good to see how the final film comes together. It’s all over the place, on Motionographer, and is getting a release in places. The trailer is lovely.
